365
Photography is the closest thing we have to a time machine, where film becomes a vision
or echo of another time. Imagine having a calendar in which each day of that calendar is a photograph of that day’s special or even ordinary events. With this in mind, I set out to capture a year of my life through photography and then display it in mural form. I used pinhole photography because the technique can create an almost dream-like quality, mimicking the way in which many of our memories exist. In addition, this calendar’s large size at once emphasizes the passage of time and enhances the feeling of going back in time.
365 is now over three years in the making. Using a pinhole camera I crafted specifically for this project, I have captured (and continues to capture) one moment from each day in my life. The photos are clustered by month, with a small portion of the negative exposed for each calendar day.
